Wicker film starring Olivia Colman and Alexander Skarsgård set for release

The new fantasy romantic comedy Wicker, directed by Eleanor Wilson and Alex Huston Fischer, is set for a theatrical release in late October 2026. Based on Ursula Wills-Jones’ short story ‘The Wicker Husband’, the film follows an ostracized fisherwoman, played by Olivia Colman, who commissions a local basketmaker, played by Peter Dinklage, to craft her a husband out of wicker.

Alexander Skarsgård stars as the wicker-crafted man. To achieve a realistic look, Wētā Workshop spent 18 months developing a practical costume consisting of 50 interlocking pieces, utilizing digital scans and 3D printing rather than CGI. The film’s premise—an unconventional romance in a conservative village—has generated significant social media interest and viral discussion.

The cast also includes Elizabeth Debicki and Richard E. Grant. Following its premiere, the film is scheduled to open in select theaters on October 23, 2026, before expanding nationwide on October 30.
