AirAdvisor study ranks most and least expensive European airlines
A study by AirAdvisor has ranked 23 European airlines based on revenue per available seat kilometre (RASK), a metric that accounts for ticket prices and additional fees like luggage and seat selection. The findings reveal significant price disparities between carriers.
Widerøe, a Norwegian regional airline, was identified as the most expensive carrier with a RASK of €0.32. The study notes that smaller airlines often face higher costs due to operating fewer routes, smaller fleets, and serving remote destinations with less competition. Among major operators, British Airways, Air France, and Lufthansa were among the most expensive.
On the more affordable end of the spectrum, Wizz Air was ranked as the cheapest airline in Europe, followed by easyJet and Ryanair. Notably, Ryanair saw a 34% decrease in its RASK. Overall, the data indicates a downward trend in costs, with nine out of 14 airlines showing a decrease in RASK between 2024 and 2025.
