Widespread Antisemitism Reported on Canadian University Campuses

A government‑commissioned survey of 900 Jewish post‑secondary students across Canada found that 95 % have experienced or witnessed at least one form of antisemitism on campus. More than 70 % reported seeing antisemitic graffiti, and over one‑in‑five witnessed physical violence targeting Jews.

The CASE (Campus Antisemitism and Student Experiences) report also documented that faculty and staff are involved in a significant share of incidents: 18 % of reports named professors, with teaching assistants and non‑teaching staff accounting for another 14 %. About 36 % of respondents said they encountered antisemitic or biased course content, and 34 % noted unrelated references to Jews, Judaism, Israel or Zionism in class discussions. Seven‑in‑10 said their institutions do not take antisemitism seriously, and many consider dropping courses or leaving their programs because of the hostile environment.

Co‑authors Jack Jedwab and Paul Holley of the Association for Canadian Studies and the Metropolis Institute called the findings a “systemic crisis,” urging the federal government and university administrations to enforce existing codes of conduct, improve incident reporting, and take stronger action to protect Jewish students.
