Świdnica to hold commemorations for victims of Soviet aggression
Residents of Świdnica will hold ceremonies on September 20 to honor the victims of Soviet aggression against Poland. The event coincides with Siberian Citizen Day, commemorating the hundreds of thousands of Polish citizens forcibly deported to the USSR, including Siberia and Kazakhstan, during the Soviet occupation.
The commemorations mark the upcoming 87th anniversary of the Soviet invasion on September 17, 1939. This military action, which occurred without a prior declaration of war, was a result of the secret protocol to the Ribbentrop-Molotov Pact between Nazi Germany and the Soviet Union. The invasion led to the division of Polish territory between the two occupying powers.
The program organized by the Świdnickie Stowarzyszenie Patriotyczne includes a Holy Mass at the St. Joseph Sanctuary, followed by a procession to the Katyn Monument at St. Margaret's Square. The ceremony will feature military assistance from the Wrocław Garrison, guest speeches, and the laying of wreaths.
