Świdnica’s Fifth Historical Walk Spotlights City’s Military Past
The fifth edition of the Świdnica Historical Walks took place recently, guided by Sobiesław Nowotny and Sylwia Osojca‑Kozłowska. Participants visited former military sites such as the training ground now occupied by the Osiedle Młodych, a large Prussian grain store near the cathedral, the historic Fizylierów and Miners barracks, an 18th‑century small barracks building, old lazarettos, powder magazines and garrison churches. The tour explained how the military presence shaped the city’s social and economic life and left a lasting cultural heritage.
The event was organized by Fundacja Symbioza with financial support from the municipality of Świdnica and Świdnicki County. Attendance was free but required prior online registration due to limited places. Organizers announced the next walk for 2 August, titled “Under the Eye of Hermes – Świdnica’s Merchant Power,” which will focus on medieval trade and be led by Marzena Zięba.
