Świdnik hydrogen buses grounded due to technical failures
Three hydrogen-powered buses in Świdnik, purchased from Arthur Bus for approximately 12 million PLN, have been out of service for several weeks due to recurring technical issues with their batteries and suspension. The local municipality has replaced these vehicles with traditional internal combustion engine buses operated by MPK Lublin to maintain scheduled service frequencies.
The situation is complicated by the financial status of the manufacturer, Arthur Bus, which filed for bankruptcy in November 2025. This development raises questions regarding the long-term maintenance and support of the fleet.
On a broader scale, Poland's hydrogen strategy aims for significant deployment of zero-emission vehicles. While the number of hydrogen refueling stations remains low, approximately 150 to 200 hydrogen buses are currently operating in Polish cities, supported by the ‘Green Public Transport’ subsidy program.
