Widows in Nigeria seek recovery and empowerment following violence
In Nigeria’s Plateau State, hundreds of Christian widows are working to rebuild their lives after losing husbands, homes, and livelihoods to repeated attacks on farming villages. Many survivors have suffered physical injuries, including gunshot wounds and burns, while others have faced the loss of property and the inability to afford food, medical care, or school fees.
Local organizations, including City Ministries and the Lagos Nigeria Widowspray Movement, are providing various forms of support. Efforts range from practical assistance, such as covering medical costs and school fees, to spiritual and psychological support through trauma counseling and community gatherings. These initiatives aim to help women regain independence, discover new purposes, and contribute to the social and spiritual transformation of their communities.
