Widzew Łódź faces financial losses and sporting struggles

Widzew Łódź is facing significant sporting and financial challenges. According to the ‘Finansowa Ekstraklasa’ report for the 2025/2026 season, the club recorded a net loss of over 90 million PLN. While owner Robert Dobrzycki provided 143.6 million PLN in capitalization, the club’s expenditures—including nearly 100 million PLN for transfers and 68.3 million PLN in first-team salaries—have led to a wage-to-revenue ratio of 150%, the highest in the league.

Sporting Director Łukasz Masłowski has expressed serious concern regarding the club's financial stability, describing the situation as a ‘red flag’ and noting that the club cannot survive without continuous owner support. On the pitch, the club has struggled with poor results and disappointing player performances. Masłowski specifically highlighted Brazilian winger Paulinho Bóia as a major disappointment, noting the player arrived poorly prepared and has since suffered recurring injuries.

In response to these issues, the club has attempted to shift its transfer policy toward more cost-effective options, such as loans and free transfers, to reorganize the squad and stabilize the budget.
