Wieliczka Salt Mine undergoes infrastructure and heritage investments

The Wieliczka Salt Mine, a UNESCO World Heritage site, is undergoing various investments to preserve its historical heritage and modernize its facilities for tourists and residents. Current projects include the renovation of the Kościuszko shaft, which is 297.5 meters deep. Due to high humidity and salt content, workers are replacing corroded metal reinforcements and supports with protected steel structures to improve safety and restore the shaft's communication and transport functions.

Additional modernization efforts include the renovation of the historic saltworks (warzelnia). Work involves securing the building, filling underground voids with grout, and reinforcing masonry walls with steel profiles. The mine's extensive network, consisting of approximately 300 kilometers of tunnels and numerous chambers across nine levels, continues to serve as a unique blend of industrial history, museum space, and cultural landmark.
