Wien-Holding-Arena project in Vienna remains in preparatory phase
The construction of the Wien-Holding-Arena in Vienna's St. Marx district remains in the preparatory phase, with no building application yet submitted. During a city council meeting, Finance Councilor Barbara Novak stated that technical, architectural, and economic frameworks are still being negotiated and that a building permit is not yet imminent.
The planned venue, intended to hold up to 20,000 people, is being developed on a site adjacent to the existing Marx-Halle. While the project was initially announced in 2019 with an expected opening in 2024, the timeline has shifted significantly. Current projections aim for a 2030 opening. The total costs for the project are estimated at approximately 500 million euros, with a 215 million euro framework already approved by the city council.
Opposition leader Markus Figl criticized the lack of a submission status, building permit, or foreseeable completion date. The project follows a legal dispute regarding the initial contract award, which eventually led to CTS Eventim being selected to implement the plans.
