Wien Modern festival announces 39th edition in Vienna

The 39th edition of the Wien Modern festival is scheduled to begin on October 30, spanning 31 venues across 15 districts in Vienna. The program features 114 concerts and performances, including 82 world premieres and 27 Austrian premieres by 197 composers.

This year’s festival places a significant focus on the poet Elfriede Jelinek in honor of her 80th birthday, as well as composers Francesca Verunelli, Liza Lim, Annea Lockwood, and Katharina Klement. Artistic director Bernhard Günther noted that the program consists of integrated collaborative projects rather than a mere collection of individual venue offerings.
