Wiener Grüne to hold state assembly amid rising poll numbers
The Wiener Grüne (Vienna Greens) will hold their state assembly on November 14. The party is currently led by Judith Pühringer and Peter Kraus, both of whom have indicated they intend to maintain a firm stance on party matters.
Recent polling shows the party's popularity has increased, rising to 19 percent in a September survey by W24, up from 14.5 percent in the 2025 election. While the next municipal election in Vienna is not scheduled until 2030, the upcoming assembly may serve as a strategic turning point regarding the party's future role in city government.
The Greens have been in opposition since 2020, when they were excluded from the governing coalition by SPÖ leader Michael Ludwig, who chose to partner with the Neos instead. There is internal discussion within the party about reversing this shift and returning to a governing role, a move seen as emotionally significant for the party in its traditional stronghold.
