Wiener Kaiser Wiesn festival returns to Vienna's Prater

The fifth season of the Wiener Kaiser Wiesn is set to begin on September 24 in the Wiener Prater, running until October 11. The festivities will kick off with a traditional parade starting at Kolariks Luftburg at 10:00 AM, featuring horse-drawn carriages, brass bands, and folk dance groups. This parade will proceed toward the Kaiserwiese, where the official beer tapping ceremony will take place at noon, accompanied by a blessing from Dompfarrer Toni Faber.

Musical performances for the opening day include the traditional group Die Edlseer and Lisa Miko, who performs ‘Dialekt Dance’ by blending Austrian dialect with EDM beats. The festival organizers have expanded the main tent to accommodate more than 3,000 guests, following previous years that saw approximately 380,000 visitors.

In a new safety initiative, the event will deploy awareness teams to address security concerns, such as the ‘upskirting’ incidents reported at Munich’s Oktoberfest. Eight staff members in pink vests will be permanently on duty, with an additional 30 to 40 trained personnel available. An ombudsman office will also be established to handle inquiries and complaints from local residents.
