Wiener Wohnen approves hundreds of air conditioning permits

Wiener Wohnen has approved approximately 387 applications for split air conditioning units in Vienna's municipal housing (Gemeindebau) following the implementation of simplified permit procedures. The new regulations allow tenants to install these systems without needing to provide specific medical or commercial justifications, which previously acted as significant barriers.

While 387 applications have been granted, 154 were rejected due to structural, static, or monument protection constraints regarding the building facades. Currently, 770 procedures are ongoing. The initiative aims to improve quality of life during increasingly hot summers and tropical nights. To ensure safety and compliance with noise, energy efficiency, and neighbor protection standards, installations must be carried out by licensed specialist companies.
