Wiesbaden City Archive Launches Photo Project to Preserve Cityscape

The Stadtarchiv Wiesbaden has begun a systematic photographic initiative to record the current appearance of the Hessian capital. Over the coming months a staff photographer will travel throughout the city, capturing notable buildings, streetscapes and public squares that reflect recent changes.

The project fulfills a statutory archival duty, as explained by Dr. Peter Quadflieg, head of the archive. All images are taken from publicly accessible viewpoints in compliance with Germany’s panorama freedom (UrhG § 59) and respect the right of personality (KunstUrhG § 22), meaning only exterior views are recorded and pedestrians are not photographed. After collection, the photographs will be stored in the archive’s facility at Im Rad 42, subject to the municipal archive regulations and the Hessian Archive Law (HArchivG).
