Wiesbaden forms new four-party coalition agreement
A new four-party coalition consisting of the CDU, Bündnis 90/Die Grünen, FDP, and Volt has been formed to govern Wiesbaden for the next five years. The parties have presented a 118-page coalition agreement that covers various policy areas, including budget consolidation, administrative digitalization, urban development, mobility, and climate adaptation.
A notable feature of the agreement is the unique restructuring of the municipal magistrate. To balance the political strength of the partners, the parties have agreed to a mid-term shift in department distribution. While the current full-time members of the magistrate will initially remain in office, a department will transition from the Greens to the CDU halfway through the legislative period to more accurately reflect the relative strength of the parties over the full term.
While the coalition presents a unified front, some analysis suggests that the negotiations placed significant emphasis on personal planning and the distribution of political posts, including agreements on when certain officials should retire to allow for new appointments.
