Wiesbaden launches AI tool for urban design visualization
The city of Wiesbaden has introduced ‘Stadtvisionen Wiesbaden’, an artificial intelligence tool designed to help citizens visualize potential future transformations of local urban spaces. Available at the Zukunftswerk via interactive touchscreens, the tool allows users to select real images of locations in the city and apply different priorities, such as increased greenery, improved public transport, or enhanced accessibility.
The tool is intended as a visual learning and thought experiment rather than a formal urban planning proposal. It aims to stimulate imagination and highlight the complexities of urban design, demonstrating how different priorities—such as creating more green space versus maintaining accessibility for vehicles—can create competing demands for limited public space. Maral Koohestanian, the Department Head for Digital Transformation, noted that the tool allows for experimentation with how public spaces can meet diverse needs.
