Wiesbaden to host inaugural Day of Local Museums

Wiesbaden will host its inaugural ‘Tag der Heimatmuseen’ (Day of Local Museums) on Sunday, October 18. The event, organized by the ‘AG Heimat- und Geschichtsvereine’, aims to highlight the diverse history of the city’s various districts and suburbs.

Eleven local history and heritage associations will open their doors to the public from 11:00 to 17:00. The initiative seeks to showcase history in the specific locations where it occurred, covering topics such as Roman heritage, industrial beginnings, and local traditions. Participating sites include museums in Biebrich, Bierstadt, Breckenheim, Delkenheim, Dotzheim, Erbenheim, Kastel, Medenbach, Naurod, Igstadt, and Kostheim.

Special programs are scheduled, such as a guided village tour in Igstadt and a lecture regarding the history of the old local administration in Kostheim. The initiative is supported by the Wiesbaden City Archive and the Stadtmuseum am Markt, and is largely driven by volunteers dedicated to preserving regional documents and artifacts.
