Wiesbaden to launch major public transport reform in October 2027
The city of Wiesbaden has announced that its major public transport network reform will officially begin on October 3, 2027. The start date was moved from August to the autumn holidays to allow for a two-week transition period during a time of lower traffic volume, following coordination with the city of Mainz.
This reform aims to modernize a bus network that has remained largely unchanged for over 60 years. The project involves significant infrastructure upgrades, including the creation of 15 new stops, the installation of approximately 80 new bus platforms, and the updating of information at roughly 900 existing stops. Additionally, approximately 50 lines will require new official concessions.
Transportation official Marc Dahlen emphasized the need for careful preparation and coordination with Mainz, where several important lines operate. ESWE Verkehr is currently managing preparations, including street space adjustments and the development of a passenger communication strategy scheduled for release in late 2026.
