WiFi signal myths debunked and a simple 10‑second router reboot tip

A viral claim that placing a metal coin on a Wi‑Fi router will boost the signal is false. The metal must be electrically connected to the antenna circuit to act as an antenna, which a loose coin is not, and it can even create a tiny Faraday cage that weakens reception. Effective ways to improve home Wi‑Fi include placing the router centrally, avoiding obstructions, and using mesh systems when coverage is poor.

Separately, the “10‑second rule” – turning a router off, unplugging it for at least ten seconds, and then powering it back on – can clear residual power, reset internal memory, and resolve minor glitches caused by accumulated errors or device overload. This quick reset helps restore stability, though it does not fix deeper issues such as ISP problems, outdated hardware, or poor router placement.
