Wiggo Sörensson emerges as top Swedish hockey prospect

Swedish forward Wiggo Sörensson is drawing significant attention following his standout performances in senior hockey and international competition. The 18-year-old, who plays for Boro/Vetlanda HC in Hockeyettan, was selected by the Carolina Hurricanes in the second round (61st overall) of the 2026 NHL Draft.

Sörensson played a pivotal role in Sweden's gold medal victory at the U18 World Championship, scoring the opening goal in the final against Slovakia. His performance earned him recognition as one of Sweden's top players in the tournament.

Despite interest from higher-tier clubs, Sörensson chose to remain with his home club, Boro/Vetlanda HC. His recent development includes a loan appearance for Växjö Lakers in the Champions Hockey League. Experts and former NHL player Johan Franzén have highlighted his unique trajectory, noting his ability to compete effectively against senior players.
