Wigs transition from medical and theatrical use to mainstream beauty staple

Wigs are transitioning from niche uses, such as medical necessity or theatrical costumes, into mainstream beauty staples. This shift is largely driven by social media influencers who demystify the process of wearing wigs and demonstrate hair transformations to large audiences.

Economic factors also play a role, as direct-from-manufacturer sales have lowered costs compared to traditional salon markups. A significant portion of global production is concentrated in China, specifically in the city of Xuchang in Henan province, which produces approximately 60% of the world’s wigs.
