Wihlborgs achieves dual environmental certifications for Lund renovation

Wihlborgs has achieved a milestone in sustainable construction with its Beta 1–2 project at Ideon in Lund, Sweden. The project is the first in the country to receive preliminary certification under two environmental systems: Miljöbyggnad Ombyggnad 4.0 at the gold level and NollCO2 for renovation and extension projects.

Rather than demolishing the existing structure from the 1980s and 1990s, Wihlborgs opted to retain the original concrete frame while upgrading technical installations. This approach aims to modernize the building into a contemporary workplace with a significantly lower climate footprint than new construction.

To meet NollCO2 requirements, the climate impact of the renovated parts must be at least 30 percent lower than standard execution, with any remaining impact balanced through climate measures to reach net zero. The certifications, issued by the Sweden Green Building Council, evaluate factors including energy use, indoor environment, and circularity.
