Wijchen and Brunssum present balanced 2027 municipal budgets

The municipalities of Wijchen and Brunssum have presented balanced budgets for 2027, alongside multi-year perspectives extending to 2030.

In Wijchen, the municipal executive has established a budget that allows for continued investment in housing, area development, and accessibility. However, officials noted potential financial uncertainty starting in 2028 due to reduced contributions from the national government. Finance Alderman Geert Gerrits stated that while the municipality maintains a strong financial foundation and sufficient reserves, they must remain realistic about future fiscal challenges.

Brunssum’s budget focuses on limiting tax increases for citizens while prioritizing investments in livability, sustainability, and affordable housing. The municipality intends to follow a policy-light course to maintain financial stability, building upon projects initiated during the previous administration. A key milestone for Brunssum in 2027 is the commencement of the Victoriapark housing project, aimed at increasing the supply of affordable homes.
