WIKA completes Inul Underpass in East Kutai ahead of schedule

PT Wijaya Karya (Persero) Tbk (WIKA) has completed the construction of the Inul (Inul Lignite) Underpass in the Bengalon District of East Kutai, East Kalimantan. The project, initiated by PT Kaltim Prima Coal (KPC) in collaboration with the East Kalimantan Provincial Government, was finished more than two months ahead of its original December 2026 target.

The underpass was designed to separate the Sangatta-Simpang Perdau national road from KPC’s coal transportation routes. Previously, these paths intersected directly, forcing civilian vehicles and coal trucks to share the same junction. The new infrastructure utilizes a 40-meter single-span PCI Girder bridge structure, allowing public traffic and mining transport to operate simultaneously without crossing paths.

According to WIKA Operations Director I Hananto Aji, the project aims to provide safer access for road users while maintaining smooth mining operations. The completion of the underpass is expected to reduce intersection congestion and improve the flow of people and goods, thereby supporting regional economic development in East Kalimantan.
