Wikipedia co-founder claims CIA and Mossad have compromised platform integrity
Wikipedia co-founder Larry Sanger has claimed that the platform’s integrity is compromised due to systematic editing by intelligence agencies, including the CIA and Mossad. Speaking in an interview, Sanger stated that the platform’s anonymity allows these entities to use pseudonyms as a “mask” to influence content in favor of specific geopolitical interests, such as US wars or Zionism.
Sanger highlighted that the impact of these edits is amplified by the modern digital landscape, as Wikipedia serves as a primary training source for search engines and artificial intelligence. He noted that AI tools frequently consult Wikipedia to generate answers and that platforms like xAI’s Grok have adopted text verbatim from the encyclopedia.
Furthermore, Sanger alleged that various corporations and organizations work to modify content on behalf of wealthy individuals and governments. He expressed regret over his role in creating the platform, citing its vulnerability to propaganda, though he acknowledged that much of its content remains useful.
