Wilber Alonso García Muñoz captured for alleged assault of elderly woman

Authorities in Antioquia, Colombia, have captured Wilber Alonso García Muñoz, the alleged perpetrator of a sexual assault against an 83-year-old woman in La Unión. The arrest took place in the municipality of Santa Rosa de Osos.

Following the attack, the suspect attempted to flee to another subregion of the department to evade law enforcement. However, investigators utilized municipal monitoring cameras to identify the vehicle used in the crime and trace his escape route.

The operation was a coordinated effort involving the Antioquia Governor's Office, the Departmental Security Secretariat, the Antioquia Police (SIJIN), the La Unión Police Station, and the Attorney General's Office. Governor Andrés Julián Rendón condemned the act as a “reproachable” and “cowardly” crime, calling for the maximum possible legal sentence.
