Wilczyn municipality warns of catastrophic lake conditions

Grzegorz Skowroński, the head of Wilczyn municipality, has described the condition of local lakes as ‘catastrophic’ due to delays in a critical water transfer project. The project aims to transfer water from the Warta River to lakes and former mining reservoirs to stabilize the ecosystem.

Administrative delays in issuing environmental decisions, involving consultations with the Regional Directorate for Environmental Protection in Poznań, have stalled progress. Without these decisions, the municipality cannot secure necessary construction permits or access funding from the Just Transition Fund.

The investment, which involves building a 9.5-kilometer pipeline and modernizing pumping stations, was transferred to the Powidzkie Landscape Park Association after the previous government withdrew support for the project originally managed by Wody Polskie. The project is estimated to cost tens of millions of PLN.
