Wild boar populations decrease in Slavonia

The Croatian Hunting Federation has reported a significant reduction in wild boar populations across five counties in Slavonia. Between July 27 and August 10, 797 wild boars were removed through culling or relocation.

These measures are part of an ongoing effort to control the spread of African swine fever and reduce wild boar numbers in accordance with government mandates. In addition to removals, authorities conducted 178 drives and 2,215 searches of hunting grounds. The Federation noted that in some areas, hunting associations are no longer recording any wild boar presence, indicating the intensity of the recent activities.

To prevent the spread of disease, strict biosecurity protocols are being followed, including the disinfection of equipment, vehicles, and hunting ground entrances. All activities, including organized group hunts, are conducted in compliance with regulations and are prohibited in designated protection, monitoring, and infected zones. The handling of culled animals follows the specific instructions of the Ministry of Agriculture.
