Wildfires impact Aspe Valley in France and Antalya in Turkey

Severe wildfires are currently impacting regions in France and Turkey.

In the Aspe Valley of the Pyrénées-Atlantiques, France, a vegetation fire has burned approximately 125 hectares. The blaze is concentrated on steep ridges around the 2,099-meter Aygarry Peak, making access difficult for ground crews. Authorities have deployed heavy aerial support, including an Australian Chinook helicopter, and have prohibited civilian drone flights in the area. While the situation is described as “rather stable,” high temperatures exceeding 30°C and difficult terrain remain significant challenges.

In Antalya, Turkey, a fast-moving wildfire has struck the Aksu district, specifically the Karaöz neighborhood. Driven by violent winds, the fire has caused at least one house to be destroyed and forced emergency evacuations in several districts, including Döşemealtı and Kepez. Firefighting efforts involve hundreds of personnel, dozens of vehicles, and multiple aircraft. Strong winds have created secondary spot fires, complicating containment efforts as crews work to protect residential areas.
