Wildfire burns 9 hectares near San Donato in Poggio, Italy

A wildfire broke out in the forested areas between San Donato in Poggio and Castellina in Chianti, within the municipality of Barberino Tavarnelle. The fire, fueled by low humidity and north-easterly winds, burned approximately 9 hectares of woodland.

Emergency responders, including over twenty volunteer teams from the provinces of Florence and Siena, worked to contain the blaze. The intervention prevented the fire from spreading to an additional 200 hectares of vegetation. The operation involved three regional helicopters and the planned deployment of a Canadair aircraft to secure dense forest areas. To prevent reignition, earth-moving machinery was utilized to create firebreaks.

The affected area is noted for its environmental and touristic value, containing homes and farmhouses. The Tuscany Region has issued warnings regarding high temperatures and drought, reminding the public of the absolute ban on burning materials in place from June 13 to August 31.
