Wildfire hits Morro das Antenas region in Canaã dos Carajás

A large-scale wildfire broke out in the Morro das Antenas region of Canaã dos Carajás, in southeastern Pará, on Monday afternoon. The fire began around 4:30 p.m. and produced smoke columns visible from various parts of the city, causing concern among local residents due to dry weather and wind conditions.

Emergency response efforts involve a joint operation between the Fire Department and the Municipal Secretariat of Environment. Because the area is difficult to access, crews have utilized heavy machinery and specialized equipment to contain the flames and prevent further spread through the vegetation. As of the latest reports, no injuries or direct damage to buildings have been recorded.

The exact cause of the fire remains under investigation, though authorities are considering the possibility that a discarded cigarette butt may have ignited the blaze. The incident has also impacted local infrastructure, with Equatorial Pará working to restore electricity to neighborhoods affected by the fire.
