Wildfire in Abrantes and Mação controlled by emergency services

A wildfire that broke out on Saturday afternoon between Vale Mouriscas and Lercas has been controlled in the Santarém district of Portugal. The fire spread through scrubland and forest areas toward the municipality of Mação.

The emergency response mobilized 578 personnel to combat the flames. While aerial resources had to suspend operations at nightfall, ground crews continued the effort. The fire was officially reported as controlled by 00:52 on Sunday.

Two emergency responders sustained minor injuries during the operation; both were treated at the Abrantes Hospital and have since recovered. No damage to residential buildings was reported.
