Wildfire in Paraíba consumes 800 hectares in Lagoa
A wildfire in the Sertão region of Paraíba, specifically in the municipality of Lagoa, has consumed approximately 800 hectares of vegetation and mountain areas. According to the Military Firefighters Corps, the flames were brought under control by Saturday, though efforts to fully extinguish the fire are ongoing.
The operation involves 20 firefighters and 10 members of the Tactical Air Group, supported by an aircraft. Colonel Saulo Alves Laurentino, commander of the 3rd Regional Command of the Military Firefighters, stated that while the fire is controlled, teams must continue advancing to ensure total extinction.
High temperatures, low humidity, and strong winds have significantly hindered firefighting efforts. The fire, which began on Sunday, has affected both mountain vegetation and surrounding rural properties. No injuries have been reported, and the cause of the fire remains unidentified.
