Wildfire in Resen threatens Pelister National Park
A severe wildfire has broken out in the Makazi area of the Resen Municipality, threatening the Pelister National Park. The fire initially started near several apple orchards, but emergency responders noted that a second, longer fire line appeared simultaneously at a different location. Stojanche Angelov, Director of the Directorate for Protection and Rescue (DZS), stated that this pattern suggests the fire may have been intentionally set.
To prevent the flames from entering the national park, the DZS has deployed specialized earth-moving tractors and additional firefighting teams equipped with pincers. Firefighters are currently working to stop the fire from crossing paved roads and to protect surrounding orchards.
According to the Crisis Management Center, there are multiple active wildfires across the region, including areas in Studeničani, Zeleni Kov, Saraj, and Prilep, though several other fires have already been brought under control or extinguished.
