Wildfire near Mihiltsi burns 2,000 decares amid arson suspicions

A large wildfire in the Odih villa zone near the village of Mihiltsi, near Hisarya, has burned approximately 2,000 decares of land. The fire, which prompted the activation of the BG-Alert system and the evacuation of about 40 people, destroyed 11 structures, including three villas and several metal constructions.

Investigators and firefighters have expressed suspicions of arson. Authorities noted that multiple separate fire outbreaks occurred in different locations over a short period, which is considered unusual behavior. While the main fire was brought under control by Wednesday evening, some areas continue to smolder. Firefighting efforts involved approximately 110 personnel, including 16 fire teams and two military helicopters, though strong winds and difficult access to the area hindered operations.
