Wildfire spreads across Çikës Mountain in Albania

A large-scale wildfire is spreading across Çikës Mountain in southern Albania, threatening several areas including Dukat, Dhërmi, and Palasa. The fire, which has been active for at least two days, has expanded from its initial points near Dukat to cover both sides of the mountain.

Emergency response efforts involve firefighting forces, approximately 40 military personnel under the direction of Civil Emergencies, and two Air Tractor aircraft. The operation is complicated by the difficult mountainous terrain. While current wind conditions are not strong, there are concerns that high winds could push the flames toward Llogara National Park.

Authorities are working to isolate the flames and prevent further spread toward major tourist destinations. The exact total area affected by the fire has not yet been determined.
