Wildfires and residential fires cause damage in Colombia and Chile
In Coyaima, Colombia, community members, indigenous councils, and emergency services worked together to contain forest fires that burned for eight days in the La Jabonera district. The fires destroyed pastures and crops, threatening local homes. The Tolima Governorate provided humanitarian aid, including food and hydration, through the Secretariat of Social Inclusion and Differential Approach to support affected rural families.
In Hijuelas, Chile, a house belonging to the Carlos Durán Zapata family in the Rabuco area was destroyed by a fire on a Friday night. No residents were inside at the time, preventing injuries. Local authorities and community groups are organizing solidarity efforts, and the municipality's social area has begun the aid process. Police detained one individual following allegations of involvement in starting the fire.
