Wildfires break out across Haskovo region in Bulgaria

Multiple wildfires have broken out across the Haskovo region in Bulgaria, prompting a large-scale response from firefighting teams.

In Haskovo, a pine forest above the Makedonski neighborhood caught fire, causing significant smoke. Firefighters worked to prevent flames from reaching the tree canopies. Additionally, a fire near the Kenana area resulted in damage to several yards and a shed, during which an elderly person was injured while attempting to extinguish the flames. Another fire broke out near the Koren training ground following military exercises, affecting several hundred decares of land.

In the Harmanli municipality, fires spread through dry grass, shrubs, mixed forest, and vineyards between the villages of Kolarovo and Dositeevo. Ten firefighting teams and volunteers from the Harmanli Volunteer Formation are managing the situation. Efforts to contain the blaze include using bulldozers to create firebreaks, though strong winds continue to make the situation dynamic. Currently, there is no immediate threat to residential areas in these locations.
