Paraná River Delta fires trigger monitoring operations

Authorities in the Paraná River Delta have activated monitoring and preventive patrolling operations following the detection of multiple fire outbreaks in the island sectors of Entre Ríos. The fires, identified through satellite imagery and aerial observations from Santa Fe, have primarily affected surface vegetation. Reports indicate that the fires have impacted hundreds of hectares, with some estimates suggesting over 500 hectares in Entre Ríos and nearly 400 additional hectares near Ramallo and Villa Constitución.

While the low river level has acted as a natural barrier in some areas, it has also left dry grasslands exposed as highly combustible fuel. Environmental experts from the Universidad Nacional de Rosario have expressed concern, suggesting that some fires may be intentional acts used for land clearing.

As of recent reports, many active fire spots had diminished in intensity due to surface water presence, but forest brigades and local police continue to monitor the Victoria-Rosario link and surrounding areas. Coordination remains active between the provinces of Entre Ríos and Santa Fe, as well as federal justice authorities, to manage the environmental and sanitary risks posed by the smoke and heat.
