Wildfires cause agricultural loss in Dominican Republic and reveal archaeological site in Ecuador

Wildfires have caused significant damage in both the Dominican Republic and Ecuador. In Altamira, Dominican Republic, a fire destroyed approximately 200 tareas of cocoa plantations in the Los Rincones community. Agronomist Julio Cabrera has requested assistance from the Ministry of Agriculture to replace the lost crops, noting that the vegetation is increasingly vulnerable due to ongoing drought.

In Ecuador, a fire affecting roughly 500 hectares in the Casitagua area has led to a potential archaeological discovery. Following the loss of vegetation, technicians from the Instituto Metropolitano de Patrimonio (IMP) identified a rock-carved grandstand near the Radioloma site. Experts suggest the structure may be of Inca origin, though further studies are required to confirm its history. Authorities are now evaluating how to protect these newly visible heritage sites.
