Wildfires cause environmental damage in Peru and Argentina

Wildfires have caused significant environmental damage in Peru and Argentina. In the Junín region of Peru, a forest fire consumed over 250 hectares in the Asháninka native community of Cutivireni, located in Río Tambo, Satipo.

In Argentina, a fire affected 22 hectares of the Cerrado biome at the Teyú Cuaré Peninsula in San Ignacio, Misiones. The blaze specifically impacted the Tenondé Natural Reserve, which is part of the Provincial System of Protected Areas. The fire, reportedly caused by electrical pole replacement work, resulted in severe biodiversity losses. Notable impacts include the destruction of the entire local population of Lessingianthus teyucuarensis, which represents one-third of the global population, as well as significant losses to several other endemic plant and animal species.
