Wildfires destroy hundreds of hectares near Tirana, Albania

Large wildfires have swept through several villages on the outskirts of Tirana, Albania, destroying hundreds of hectares of land. The fires primarily affected the areas of Priskë e Madhe, Lundër, Gurrë e Vogël, and Dajti, causing significant damage to forests, olive groves, and fruit trees.

High temperatures, drought, and dry vegetation are cited as contributing factors, though authorities have not ruled out negligence or intentional arson. The rugged mountainous terrain complicated ground firefighting efforts, necessitating the use of helicopters to combat the flames, particularly in Priskë e Madhe and Gurrë e Vogël where the fire approached residential areas.

As a safety precaution, at least 10 families were evacuated from their homes. While reports of livestock deaths remain unconfirmed by residents, the fires did destroy three old, uninhabited structures. While the situation has stabilized in some areas, active hotspots remain under monitoring by ground forces and aerial units.
