Wildfires expand across Mount Kawi and Mount Butak regions

Wildfires in the Mount Kawi, Mount Butak, and Mount Kawinajang regions have expanded significantly, with the affected area reaching approximately 700 hectares. The fires have spread due to strong winds and difficult terrain, impacting areas including Mount Bundar and the borders of Blitar Regency.

Local authorities, including the Blitar Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) and Perhutani KPH Malang, are struggling to contain the flames. Ground teams face challenges due to steep, slippery, and treacherous slopes that prevent direct access to the fire sources.

To combat the blaze, officials have planned waterbombing operations using helicopters. However, these aerial efforts have faced interruptions because high wind speeds pose significant flight safety risks. Current strategies include monitoring fire points and creating firebreaks in accessible areas to prevent further spread.
