Bohinj Lake fire on Bela Glava mountain contained using Air Tractor water drops

A wildfire broke out on the summit of Bela Glava mountain near the Triglav Lakes in early morning hours. The blaze, estimated at about 50 × 50 metres, was suspected to have been ignited by a lightning strike.

Volunteer fire brigades from Bohinjska Bistrica, Srednja vas, Stara Fužina and Studor tackled the fire on the ground, while two Air Tractor aircraft drew water from Bohinj Lake and made 42 drops, releasing roughly 126 000 litres of water. The fire was declared extinguished after intensive aerial and ground efforts.

The Bohinj municipality warned visitors to stay clear of the water‑capture corridor on the lake and to follow safety instructions. The national protection agency has meanwhile declared a high fire‑danger period for the next ten days, prohibiting open fires and burning in natural areas.
