Wildfires Ravage Santo Stefano Quisquina, Italy, Prompting State Emergency Request

A series of wildfires broke out in the municipality of Santo Stefano Quisquina in Sicily, with five active fronts reported in the areas of San Calogero, Serra Quisquina, Stagnataro, Gargiuffe and Pioppo. The flames were intensified by strong winds and high temperatures, causing extensive damage to agricultural and livestock businesses.

Local authorities, including the fire brigade, civil protection, police, forest‑fire operators and volunteers, have been deployed continuously, monitoring hotspots through the night to prevent new flare‑ups. The mayor, Francesco Cacciatore, announced that the municipal administration will request a state‑level disaster declaration to obtain further assistance.
