Wildfires reported in Derio and Tarifa, Spain
Two separate wildfires were reported in Spain, with emergency services working to contain the flames in Derio and Tarifa.
In Derio, near Bilbao Airport, a level 2 forest fire broke out in the San Isidro neighborhood on Monday evening. The fire, which originated in an abandoned urbanized area, was extinguished around 5:30 a.m. after more than nine hours of firefighting efforts by crews from Derio, Basauri, and Artaza. Aena confirmed that flight operations and visibility at the airport remained unaffected by the smoke or the incident.
In Tarifa, the first forest fire of the summer occurred near the La Vega industrial estate. Firefighters from Plan Infoca battled the blaze amid strong easterly winds exceeding 70 km/h. The fire was brought under control by 10:00 p.m. after causing temporary traffic diversions. Due to the high winds and safety risks, local authorities also moved the closing of the Real Feria to Saturday.
