Wildfires spread across Baker County and Umatilla National Forest

Wildfires continue to impact regions in Oregon, with significant acreage burned in both Baker County and the Umatilla National Forest.

In Baker County, the McCully Fire has reached an estimated 5,458 acres, while the North Pole Fire covers 512 acres. Both fires were reported following a lightning storm on August 22. The McCully Fire has approached the unincorporated town of Bourne, prompting the Baker County Sheriff’s Office to issue evacuation notices. Firefighters are currently working to protect cabins in Bourne and surrounding areas, including Cable Cove and Silver Creek.

In the Umatilla National Forest, the Hagen Fire has grown to 59,939 acres with 28% containment, while the Paradise Fire covers 8,213 acres with 0% containment. Fire crews are utilizing strategic firing operations to reduce available vegetation and strengthen containment lines, which may result in increased visible smoke in the Mill Creek area.
