Wildfires Threaten Konjic Town and Major Transport Corridor in Bosnia and Herzegovina
Large forest fires have spread across the Konjic area in Bosnia and Herzegovina, covering the region between Kanjina, Živašnica, Ovčar and Džep. The blaze is close to the M17 highway and the Sarajevo‑Mostar railway, endangering nearby settlements and a vital national transport link.
Local fire crews were overwhelmed, prompting the city of Konjic to request assistance through the Federal Civil Protection Authority. Units from the Professional Fire Brigade of Sarajevo Canton were dispatched, along with helicopters from the Bosnia and Herzegovina Armed Forces air‑defence brigade, a Ministry of Interior helicopter from Zenica‑Doboj County, and Air Tractors. Local firefighters, forestry workers, and residents continue to fight the fire on steep, densely vegetated terrain.
