Wildlife authorities rescue primates in Mexico and Bolivia
Authorities in Mexico and Bolivia have conducted separate operations to rescue primates being held illegally.
In Apatzingán, Michoacán, the State Attorney General's Office (FGE), in coordination with the Mexican Army, National Guard, and PROFEPA, rescued a black and white spider monkey during a search operation in Palo Alto. The animal was found tied by its neck to a tree within a property. PROFEPA took custody of the specimen to ensure its protection and safe transfer.
In La Paz, Bolivia, a capuchin monkey was rescued after restaurant patrons reported seeing the animal being kept as a pet. Following a report to the Departmental Secretary of Mother Earth Protection and Environmental Management, specialized forces and police seized the monkey. Despite initial resistance from the owners, the animal was transferred to a care center for health evaluation and subsequently sent to the Senda Verde center for specialized care.
